The CTi 3M is a compact, two-piece infrared pyrometer built for accurate non-contact temperature measurement of demanding materials at relatively low temperatures. Operating at a short wavelength of 2.3 µm, it is tuned for metals, secondary metal processing, metal oxides, ceramics, and composites, and it covers a wide span from 30 °C to 1500 °C (86 °F to 2732 °F). A tiny sensing head paired with separate electronics lets you place the sensor exactly where the measurement needs to happen while keeping the electronics in a safer, more accessible spot.

Why Short-Wave Matters for Metals
Metals are difficult to measure in the long-wave infrared band because their emissivity is low and unstable, which makes readings drift and reflections throw them off. The CTi 3M measures at 2.3 µm, where metals emit more strongly and predictably, so the influence of emissivity uncertainty is much smaller. The result is better accuracy and repeatability on bare, oxidized, and reflective metal surfaces, which is exactly what processes like forging, hardening, casting, and galvanizing demand.

Fast Enough to Keep Up
With a 320 µs response time, the CTi 3M reacts almost instantly to temperature changes, making it well suited to fast-moving parts, rapid induction heating, and quick thermal events that a slower instrument would smear or miss. When your process moves quickly, the measurement keeps pace.

A Two-Piece Design That Fits Anywhere
The sensing head is small enough to mount in confined spaces and close to the target, while the electronics live separately at the end of the cable. This separation keeps the sensitive electronics away from heat and vibration and makes installation far easier in cramped or harsh machinery. Cable length is your choice: 3 m, 8 m, or 15 m.

Outputs and Process Integration
The CTi 3M is built to drop straight into a control system. Its electronics provide a configurable analog output that can be set to 0/4 to 20 mA, 0 to 5/10 V, or a type K thermocouple signal, along with an open-collector alarm output. A built-in USB interface handles setup and data, and optional digital interfaces add EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Ethernet TCP/IP, Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, RS485, RS232, or isolated relay outputs, so the sensor fits both traditional and modern automation. Three programmable I/O pins can each be configured as an input or an output for functions such as external emissivity adjustment, ambient temperature compensation, an alarm, or a trigger that resets the hold functions. Everything is set up and fine-tuned with the included software or the mobile app, and the sensor runs from an 8 to 36 V DC supply.

Built for Industry
The CTi 3M is designed for continuous operation in real industrial environments, with a sensing head rated for ambient temperatures from -20 °C to 85 °C (-4 °F to 185 °F) and an IP65 / NEMA 4 rating. The miniature 14 mm sensing head runs without cooling, so it fits tight spots right where the measurement is needed. Like the rest of the line, it is designed and built in Germany for dependable, long-term performance.

Typical Applications
Metal processing and secondary metal processing, forging, induction and flame hardening, metal casting and continuous casting, galvanization, and the measurement of metal oxides, ceramics, and composite materials. Anywhere a metal, ceramic, or composite part must be measured accurately at low to moderate temperatures, and often while it is moving quickly, the CTi 3M is designed to read it.

Choosing the Right Optics
The CTi 3M is offered with three lens options so you can match the measurement spot to your target. Standard Focus measures a spot that grows with distance, expressed as a distance-to-spot ratio: the higher the temperature range, the tighter the ratio, from 12:1 on the lowest range up to 75:1 on the two highest. It is the right choice when the sensor is mounted back from the target. Close Focus concentrates the measurement onto a small, fixed spot at a working distance of about 110 mm, for small parts or features at short range. Extra-Close Focus focuses tighter still, resolving the smallest spots at a working distance of about 30 mm, for very small targets measured up close. Because the exact spot size depends on the temperature range you select, use the table below to find the precise figure, then confirm your target size and working distance before ordering. Extra-Close Focus is available on the 30 to 350 °C, 50 to 475 °C, and 100 to 600 °C ranges only.

Temperature Range Standard Focus
(spot grows with distance)
Close Focus
(small spot at 110 mm)
Extra-Close Focus
(smallest spot at 30 mm)
30 – 350 °C 12:1 distance-to-spot ratio 9.2 mm spot 2.5 mm spot
50 – 475 °C 22:1 distance-to-spot ratio 5.0 mm spot 1.4 mm spot
100 – 600 °C 33:1 distance-to-spot ratio 3.3 mm spot 1.0 mm spot
150 – 1000 °C 75:1 distance-to-spot ratio 1.5 mm spot Not available
200 – 1500 °C 75:1 distance-to-spot ratio 1.5 mm spot Not available

Standard Focus spot size grows with distance at the ratio shown (for example, at 75:1 the measured spot is 1 mm across for every 75 mm of distance). Close Focus and Extra-Close Focus figures are the smallest measurable spot, achieved at their stated working distance.
