The Xi 410 LT ETH is a compact, fixed-mount infrared camera built for precise, non-contact temperature measurement in demanding industrial environments. Operating in the long-wave infrared band (8 - 14 µm), it captures radiometric thermal images at 384 x 240 pixels and measures surface temperatures from -20 °C up to 1500 °C. Its high distance-to-spot ratio - up to 384:1 - lets it resolve small targets accurately from a distance, outperforming traditional spot pyrometers, while a software-controlled motorized focus keeps a mounted camera sharp without physical access. Housed in a rugged, waterproof stainless steel body, it is designed for permanent installation in plants and processes.
Direct Process and PLC Integration
The Xi 410 LT runs autonomously - it calculates temperatures, finds hotspots automatically, and triggers alarms on its own, with no PC required once configured. A direct 0/4-20 mA analog output and an isolated input let it talk to a PLC straight out of the box, and the optional Industrial Process Interface stacks up to three modules for as many as nine analog or alarm outputs. For higher-level networks, dedicated interface kits add EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, or Modbus TCP, connecting the camera to Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and other control systems.
Typical Applications
The camera suits early fire and hotspot detection in material handling and storage, thermal-trend monitoring in plastics processing and electronics manufacturing, condition monitoring with temperature alarms and closed-loop control, and safety interlocks or zone monitoring on conveyors, cabinets, and enclosures - anywhere a fixed, continuous thermal view helps catch problems before they escalate.
Measuring Metals and Glass
This is a long-wave (8 - 14 µm) camera, which is ideal for most non-metallic surfaces - plastics, painted parts, organics, electronics, and the like. Bright or bare metals and glass are more difficult in this spectral band because of their low or variable emissivity, so for those materials a camera operating in a shorter wavelength band is better suited. If your target is shiny metal or molten glass, confirm the right spectral range before ordering.
Compact Industrial Design
The Xi 410 LT packs its electronics into a compact stainless steel body measuring just Ø 36 mm x 100 mm with an M30 x 1 thread, weighing around 220 g. It is rated IP67 / NEMA 4 against dust and water and tested to IEC 60068 standards for shock and vibration, so it holds up to washdown, debris, and machinery vibration. For harsher conditions, a water-cooled housing extends operation to ambient temperatures up to 250 °C, while laminar air purges, outdoor housings, shutters, and mounting brackets round out the system.
Motorized Focus and Optics
The motorized focus is set entirely in software, so the image can be optimized remotely without physical access to the camera - useful for installations behind guarding or at height. Four optics are available: 18° x 12°, 29° x 18°, 53° x 31°, and 80° x 44° fields of view, with optical resolution up to 384:1 using the 18° x 12° lens. Please note the optics are integral to the camera and are selected at the time of purchase; they cannot be changed or added later, so it is worth confirming the field of view and target distance for your application before ordering. (Optris' online camera calculator makes it easy to verify the spot size and IFOV for each lens.)
Industrial Connectivity
The Xi 410 LT supports USB 2.0, Ethernet, PoE, and RS485. The camera streams at 25 Hz over Ethernet and 4 Hz over USB, with a 1.5 Hz autonomous mode for direct machine integration. Ethernet and RS485 runs extend up to 20 m as standard and can be extended to 100 m, with PoE supplying power and data over a single cable for clean, long-distance installations. The Ethernet / PoE cable is included in the standard scope of supply. Note that the camera uses a static IP address and does not support DHCP.
Software
Every camera ships with the license-free PIX Connect software - a full thermal-imaging platform for setup, analysis, and recording, with advanced functions such as line scanning, image merging, event capture, and area-based temperature evaluation. Developer kits (SDKs) are available for integrators building custom applications, and a free IRmobile app allows mobile viewing over USB. The camera runs autonomously once set up, but PIX Connect is needed for the initial configuration and focus adjustment.
Choosing the Right Lens
Lens choice is a trade-off between how much area the camera sees and how small a detail it can accurately measure. A wide lens (80° x 44°) captures a large scene but spreads the 384 x 240 pixels across a bigger area, so each pixel reads a coarser spot; a narrow lens (18° x 12°) concentrates those pixels onto a small window, resolving much finer detail at distance.
Two questions guide the choice. First, how far is the camera from the target, and is that distance fixed? Mounting close to a large object favors a wider lens, while measuring something across a room or inside a furnace favors a narrower one. Second, what is the smallest feature that needs an accurate reading? For a trustworthy measurement the target should cover at least the camera's measurement field of view (MFOV) of 3 x 3 pixels, so the smaller the target, the narrower the lens you need.
| Lens (FOV) | Approx. scene width at 1 m | D:S ratio | Smallest measurable spot (MFOV) | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 18° x 12° | ~0.32 m | 384:1 | ~0.9 mm | Small or distant targets; maximum detail |
| 29° x 18° | ~0.52 m | 238:1 | ~1.5 mm | General-purpose balance |
| 53° x 31° | ~1.0 m | 128:1 | ~2.1 mm | Larger areas with closer mounting |
| 80° x 44° | ~1.68 m | 78:1 | ~2.4 mm | Wide-area coverage in tight spaces |
Minimum focus distance ranges from 200 mm (80° x 44°) to 350 mm (18° x 12°) depending on the lens. The temperature range (-20 ... 900 °C or -20 ... 1500 °C) is also selected at the time of order. Before ordering, use the free Optris IR Camera Calculator to enter your exact working distance and target size and confirm the field of view and spot size for each lens.
